Default 60 weight motor oil use in south Florida

Recently I purchased Amsoil Synthetic 60 weight oil for an upcoming O&F change. The sales rep said South Florida weather is ideal for it. I was later told it could effect my oil seals. I ride a 1999 FXSTC - Evolution (Block Head). Does anyone have experience using this viscosity?

Is the Amsoil H-D specific?
H-D engines have different type bearings than auto engines, and thus have different oil characteristic requirements. Personally, I'd be wary of any auto type oil in a H-D engine.

amsoil makes high grade motorcycle specific oil and a lot of hd folks run it, including me. Read the studies. Never tried 60 weight but should be fine.

Thumbs up

HD sells 60 weight off the shelf, so I would think it would be OK. I too live in Florida and know what the heat here can do to oil.

Now this is the second or third time I have seen someone assuming that ANYONE around here is foolish enough to even suggest the use of auto formulated oils in their bike.

IT AIN'T HAPPENING, not while I'm around it ain't.
I might not pull the post or tread that suggested it, but you can be damn sure I would say something agains't any such idea.

BTW in a pinch Harley actually suggests that if your oil is low and you need to top it off that you use the proper weight oils formulated for use in diesel engines if you can't find V-Twin specific oils.
Check your owners manual or the service manual, its all in there.

Thanks for the input. The Amsoil 60 wt is "Designed for Racing Motorcycle or Where 60 wt Oik is Recommended" according to Amsoil's description. The recommendation to use it here in south FL made sense but my friends comment regarding blowing an oil seal made me question my decision.
YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!

HEY!
Read my post. I never suggested using auto oil. I just asked a question-is the Amsoil H-D specific? IF NOT, DON'T USE AUTO OIL!
