But you do need to be aware of the detonation issues associated with a high compression build. Do not whack the throttle wide open at 1800 RPM. No good. That motor will want to destroy itself until its spinning at about 2300 RPM.
At 10:5-1 my motor is evil when the throttle is whacked below 2000 RPM. Its not a good sound and should be avoided at all costs.
You want to roll into the throttle until you have actual foward movement or get the RPM's up and slip the clutch out. Dont put a heavy load or whack the throttle suddenly on the thing under 2,500 RPM's!!

Understood. Had problems with detonation in my Mustang GT after I upped the boost and dropped in the stage 2 Comps (until I got the air:fuel, spark advance, load tables, etc. sorted out) . Heart wrenching it is -- the sound of a motor trying to kill itself
The good news is I hear nothing like detonation, even opening the throttle *slightly* at low rpm in high gear. Just valvetrain chunk, chunk, then all smooths out around 2K.
Glad to know my Twin Cam has a healthy personality. Time to move on to the Good Stuff
The mech that built my 103 said make sure I keep it revved. The pistons stay lubed much better at higher rpm, so I can't use 6th gear till 70mph. I too am constantly trying to figure out what my motor is trying to tell me. Most of the time it's probably just a bunch of hot air.
