Ever since I put the se 255 cams in at 3000 rpm I get what sounds like air slamming thru the throttle body, now this is only right at 3k below no noise and above no noise. Bike runs very strong thru all gears but at 3k sounds like a lawn mower without a muffler. this is not a decel pop it is when under a load and not popping out intake, does anyone else have this issue, I know cam marks are right on checked them many times putting together, Brian at fuel moto made me a couple of maps but still does it, I get great gas mileage and like I said bike wile climb to 110mph pretty fast. don't seem to be hurt'n nuthn just annoying. anyone have an idy what could be going on?
Thanks for your time..
Your engine consumes air at different rates depending on RPM, there is a narrow RPM band where each engine will achieve maximum volumetric efficiency; displacement, piston speed, headwork, cams, intake length, and exhaust primary length all influence where that point of maximum volumetric efficiency will be. Maybe what you are hearing is your intake tract pulse while youre bike is running at its absolute best in its range of max volumetric efficiency. Mine is around 3k also; weird sound to describe, but it is different from all the rest of the RPM range, its louder, it sounds more powerful in this range, and it feels the most powerfull in this range, come to think of it it does sound a little like a lawn mower with no muffler, but its a good sound. Unfortunately for me its also right in my highway cruising speed range and my mileage suffers.

Right on bro, very good explanation. Glad to hear someone else has this issue, your right bout being a weird sound but like I said bike does pull good thru this range (3000prm), My fuel mileage is anywhere from 36 to 42 mpg. I guess I will have to get used to this, just wanted to be sure wasn't gunna cause something to come apart.. kinda gun shy after cam sprocket spun on camshaft at 12,000 miles.. Again thanks man..
That was a great post by fabrik8r. The larger air filters let more noise out of the top end of the engine. You are hearing the air being sucked into the engine through the intake manifold. It is weird when you first hear it.
