Default Auto Primary Chain Adjuster

I have an 05 TC.
I am considering upgrading to the auto adjuster.
Is it difficult to install my self? Pull only the primary cover off?
How long do they last?
Is it worth the $$

Thanks MikeM

They will last a long time.. 100k miles? Never heard of one failing.... Some say its worth it, others do not. Not a big deal to check and adjust the chain tensioner every 5k miles. It encourages you to visually inspect the chain and gears. I would spend the money on something else. Something you can see and really appreciate...

An unneccessary luxury, IMO.........In 75k miles, I have only had to adjust my primary chain once.

Unnecessary. I have actually heard that the auto adjuster has been known to keep the primary chain so tight that it wears out your primary bearings. Adjusting the chain is simple. I have adjusted it on my 2002 once. Plus, as long as you have the adjustment window in the primary, there is not need to remove the entire primary cover.

I think you’ll find that on a new bike, the primary chain will stretch a little and thus need to be adjusted somewhere around 10K miles, after that, you’ll likely be good to go for 50K unless you pop the clutch a lot.

I had one on my 06 Heritage Classic and ended up taking it off because it ratcheted up so far the chain was way too tight. I have the old adjuster on now and haven't had to adjust it in quite a while. Spend that $100 on something else.
