04 Fat Boy problem found...
I posted earlier about problems with my 04 Fat Boy that I thought were related to the primary compensating sproket...it wasn't. I got the verdict from my indy this weekend. Apparently, the "Screaming Beagle" lifters I had installed, with the other mods (95CI, 251 cams, adjust pushrods) by the dealer when the bike was new, are a POS... and this is common knowledge to some HD mechanics...except those of course, that work at my former HD dealer!!!
So the way I understand it is that the roller bearing on the Screaming "Beagle" lifters seizes and then destroys the cams. That's were I am. My new indy says the cam chain tensioner shoes probably could have gone another 10K (18K on bike now).
So, I'm looking at installing Harley's new hydraulic assist cam shoe tension system (while we're in there) with higher output oil pump....and new cams. Also considering gear drive (Andrews).
Can someone please tell Harley Davidson that their "Screaming Beagle" lifters are a POS and are costing me yet another $1K+ to get my "Fat $ussy Boy" on the road again!! 18K miles...and my dollar/mile ratio just keeps climbing!! HD...what a value!! What really pisses me off is I was telling the dealer neophytes about the noise related to this problem for over 3 years now...had we caught it early, I may not have needed new cams...Thanks Harley!!!###@%^$!!! My indy also said my valve train is way too loud, even for 251 cams...he said a push rod adjustment would quiet things considerably.....this is another thing my dealer waved-off, even when I asked them specifically about the push rod adjustment!
Any suggestions for cams (HD or aftermarket) is appreciated. I had HD's midrange 251 cams. Other suggestions like aftermarket bearings (Torrington's?) etc, cam gear drive system, etc...anything I need while doing this job are appreciated. I'm leaning toward aftermarket parts as much as possible for obvious reasons
Thanks all...

once the warranty is expired. 21's prolly for me.
Hmmm look at the the new hydro cam shoe and plate setup with the better oil pump, The torrington cam bearings and prolly a set of those Jims lifters.
Personally I feel with the advent of the hydro shoe that gear drive is essentially dead and unneeded. Why worry about runout issues and gear lash crap? Not worth the headache. The hydro shoes and new plate are already proven winners.
That really sucks man.
