I found one that I really like. It does have the Twin Cam 88B engine (obviously being a 2006) and has 13K miles. It looks in pretty good shape. So are there any concerns that I should have with the 88B engine or mileage? Just curious if there are any red flags that I should keep my eyes open for. It will be a pretty big investment of money for me, so I want to choose wisely.
I bought a used 06 Fatboy last year, excellent condition, it had 6,000 miles when I bought it. The TC88b is a rock solid motor, the only thing you have to worry is the chain tensioner shoes and cam bearings. Go for it! http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...ner-check.html
13K? Its barely broken in. The later the 88" the betta the cam shoes. Great bikes.
If its your first harley cleanse your mind of all your old Metric thoughts.
I'm not a hater but typically the old rusty powdery plastic turd metric you see sitting on the side of the garage with a half a tarp covering it has 20,000 miles on it at best. I rarely even see 30-40K metrics. I dont know why this is but my simpletons mind blames it on parts availability as the metrics age.
The whole they are built better than anything and last forever thing dosent hold water with me as I see them all the time looking worn out and worthless at 20-25,000 miles if that just as the Harleys are hitting stride and forging on as the years and miles tick by.
My bike has almost 20K and its still like new IMO!! A Harley with 50-60-70K with regular routine maintenance isnt anything to write home about. You need a 90-100,000 miler to impress anyone on how far you have ridden it. You can easily ride that 06' Fatty with routine maintenance for 75,000 miles.
I cant remember the last metric cruiser I saw looking shiny and good at 35,000 miles much less 75,000. So 2 bikes for the price of one? I dunno.
At that 75-80K point it may need a top end IE: Pistons, rings. It may need a clutch and you will have replaced the cams shoes proabably once or twice by then along with a few other wear and tear maintenance items. Lots of guys bust the magical 100K mark on the OEM pistions and rings with these bikes.
The entry cost is high on team Harley but if you actually sit down and do the math on your smiles and miles factor comparitively? Suddenly the intial cost of Harley ownership becomes a whole lot easier to understand and stomach.
06' Fatty is a great bike. Search around and you will find the majority of owners as about pleased as...Punch!

If you pull the trigger and purchase, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Mine has been zero trouble. My expense has been with a chrome addiction I've developed!
does it have a solid service/maintenance record? if you don't feel "confident" looking the bike over yourself, then may have a PrePurchase Inspection (PPI) done so any gremlins (if any) can be identified/resolved prior to the sale.
The only other real issue, besides the cam chain tensioners, is the injectors. Some of the early 06 models had 8 degree injectors. They caused cold start and stall issues. MOCO came out with a service notice to replace them with 25 degree injectors, if the owner complains.
I would find out if this was done on the bike, if not I would see if you cans till get it done for free.
06's are great bikes. Same heads as later models, easy clutch... 13k not too many miles although I have seen lots of older bikes with less miles. The 06 did have a TSB - the injectors were replaced from 8* to 25*. You can check visually or verify with HD records.
