MAP what is it?
Ok fella's I bought this 06 Night Train at auction like I said before, I had it checked out by a local guy gave me the green light on the motor, but it's running really rich. What the hell do you do about that? Do I need to take it to a dealer and have it re-mapped whatever that means.
Thanks everyone
Thanks everyone
How did the guy you took it to determine it was running really rich?
Isnt this the bike with all the mods?
If I bought a modded out bike at an auction I would most certainly get it tuned ASAP as I wouldnt know what mods were there before or after whatever tune its on.
What excatly was on that bike again?

Thanks for the replies guys what he told me had been done to the bike was
Delkron Big Bore Kit
Delkron Cam plate
Delkron oil pump
S&S Gear Drives
Andrews 67HG Cams (not sure how he knew this)
Arlene Ness Big Sucker
Thunderhead header Pipe i think this is what he said.
I think its running rich it smells rich and when riding it at about 30 mph it is like bababababababababa not really cutting out just not smooth now if you open it up on it up and running 70 mph it's great. Also sitting in the garage if you crack the throttle a bit 2500 rpm again it not smooth.
I've changed the plugs and wire the plugs were clean

Ok so I need it tuned. What is MAP though I'm guessing from what I have read in the last month whenever you do any type of modifications it needs to have this done. I have read some guys do this themselves how is this?

A Map is a canned or ready made program for your ECM to in essence control the fuel air mixture. The remapping can be done at your local dealership or by you at home with a laptop granted you have the correct fuel management device and corresponding hardware and software.
That bike must already have either an aftermarket fuel management device or have been tuned via SERT the HD branded race tuning software installed with all that stuff it has added.
Nobody is gonna do a build like that then skimp out on the fuel management......It would be hard to imagine.
You have a built motor. Nowe is not the time to cheap out and go hunting for a canned map for that bike.
Pony up and take it to a reputable tuner. He can determine whats installed in the bike now but you may need to buy another piggy back FI device or drop the coin on the HD SERT.
Long story short get the bike to a qualified tuner ASAP and have it dyno tuned. Expect to drop $400.00 on a fuel mangement device and another $200+ in dyno tune time.

Do you think that is the problem? I don't mind dropping the cash. I only paid 8k for the bike and love it. I just want it right and ready to ride for years of enjoyment. Not to sound stupid but what is

The FI (Fuel Injection) device is a device to help regulate the fuel / air mixture going into the engine. I don't know much about the SERT, but from my understanding it replaces the stock ECM on your bike in order to compensate for the extra items, and in the end, adjust the fuel / air mixture to compensate.
A lot of guys on here know about this stuff which is why I keep coming back!

There is no 'permanent' add on or piggy back with a SERT, though some people leave the interface cable attached to the ECM its not really needed unless you plan on playing with it again.
A PCIII on the other hand is an add on, or piggy back box that is 'plugged' in between the stock ECM and the injectors to modify the output injector signals to 'fix' them to match what the engine needs without modifying the stock ECM's MAP's.
Both really require that the bike to be dyno tuned to 'dial them in' for the best performance.
A true replacement system like the Thundermax comes with a CD (a free download from their web site if you want see what and how it works) to allow you to load MAP's into it the same way you do with a SERT. You just don't need a special cable (they supply it with the unit) that's useless on any other bike once its been used on yours. That small electronics module in the interface line of the SERT in a way marries it to the serial number of you ECM and is useless on any other bike after that.
These also should be dynoed if you don't have or can't get them to send you a canned MAP for your setup, but if you have the Autotune module installed with it you only need to get close with the initial MAP and it will fine tune itself so in that case you don't really need the dyno.
With an engine as built up as yours is however I might well consider getting it dyno tuned anyway. Just to get a MAP installed that's close enough for the Autotune module to work with and prevent accidentally over leaning the Air Fuel mixture and maybe damaging the engine.
