Default loud(er) tapping noise 91 fatboy

Ugh....I just got this bike a couple weeks ago...I've got 3 noises I'm not sure are normal.

First off, I've got a Mikuni w/ a K&N filter...one sound is coming from the carb at idle...a steady tapping sound(could be air sucking? is the Mikuni THAT much louder than stock carb? I wish I knew what it sounded like prior to the mod so I could compare

Secondly, there's another sound on the left side of the engine that seems to coincide w/ the sound coming from the carb.

Thirdly, JUST today, I get a loud/hard rattling when accelerating from 20-30 mph(don't have a tach, not sure what the rpm's are in this range). Sounds like it's coming from front/ front-right of engine.....can't pinpoint.

Any ideas on any of these 3 noises? I'm starting to pray I didn't catch a lemon....

I know it's a 91..but the thing ran beautiful when I decided to buy back when.......go figure.

Thanks for your patience, and any advice!!!

Redaing this post makes me suddenly realize how far removed most of the Softail crew is from the venerable Evo motors.

Its like asking questions in a different language almost.

You could have several issues that wouldnt be best diagnosed in an internet forum. Lucky for you the Evo's are easy to work on and cheap to fix.

My advice take the bike to a reputable local Indy shop and have them go over the bike. I wouldnt ride it until the issues are located and repaired. Catastrophic failure is rare on those Evo's as they tend to slowly just wear out and lose compression but its not worth risking a motor over.

Get it looked at.

I have an 01 wide, I have the same 3 noises. The 2 at the carb are the slide making its noise... Normal for mikuni. The third sounds like sheetmetal, so check that the pipe isnt hitting on the brake lever, thats what mine was. at about 2200-2800RPM.. Drove me nutz till I figured it out.

Yep, its the Mikuni! Someone said there is a kit to stop it from making the noise but I haven't found it yet, but haven't been looking too hard either.
