Default backfire on cold starts?????

Hi,
I'm posting this question for my Dad. He has an 05 Deuce EFI and when the engine is cold, a third of the time it backfires, exhaust backfire. To clarify, when I say cold, I mean first start of the day, he lives in FL with warm ambient temps. What do you all think is hppening??? Thanks alot....

I have the same question and also live in South Florida. Mine is an 05 softail. It seems to happen most often if I turn the ignition and run switches on and don't start it immediately, while putting my gloves on for example. I usually start cranking the engine just before the fuel pump light goes off and that seems to solve it 98% of the time. Other than that, the bike runs great at 37K miles.

Question Backfire on Initial Start Up

I get the backfire on initial start up too. I've tried shutting the engine down both ways, (kill switch and ignition switch) seems ignition switch shut down reduces the occurrence - not sure why though...

Ride Safe,
