I posted this in the Softail section and will double-post here in case anyone might benefit.

This is a historical issue with the PCIII and newer PCV. The fix is to start the bike as soon as you turn on the ignition switch. Doing this should allow it to start immediately, and waiting longer for the check-engine light to go off is not necessary.

 

I thought it was the other way?

Mine starts fine cold, it's the hot starts giving me fits. This is when I use the procedure outlined by iclick.

 

I start mine as soon as I switch on the ignition and switch to run, hot or cold. If not it takes longer to start.
