Anybody on here go from a Street Glide to a Soft tail
I ride a 2008 Street Glide - love the bike - but I really don't do much touring. Since most of my riding is local, I was considering selling the bike and getting a softail (probably a fat boy).
Any opinions from somebody who went from a touring bike to a softail, or something similar. I've rode the fat boy and like it - much more fun to ride - but I obviously don't have months or years of riding experience on this bike.
Of course, I also like the way the softail looks more.

Thanks.
Nope...but I want to go the other way. I have an FXSTC and am considering grabbing an SG and playing with it for a while.
In addition to, you bet. Instead of, NO WAY. If you can only do one bike, you could consider a road king classic. With a solo seat and the windshield off it can ride like a roomy soft tail. Put them back on and tour the country. Just a thought but I would sure miss my SG.
I went from an 06 RK Classic to a 09 Night Train 2 weeks ago and love it. Not as smooth a ride but the power and the looks are outstanding. No regrets here.
I'm on the other side of the fence. I raide a fatboy and a good friend rides a SG. When we're on the road I often think I got the wrong bike. When we're just pounding the streets I'm happy as a pig in slop!
I think the poster before said it best. What we need is both not one or the other.
Oh yeah, no disrespect but the RK isn't an option in my book. It's kind of in between without offering the sweet spot of either direction.
Thanks fellas - what I want is two bikes - but I can't afford that. I thought about the Road King - with apes its a good looking bike.
That's what I was going to suggest. I think you'd be unhappy with a Fatboy.
Road King will handle way better in the twisties and you still have the bags.
Probably find a trade pretty easy from someone wanting a fairing.

This could be an excellent idea for you. Lotsa love out there for the SG model. You might be able to get someone to trade a tricked late model, low mile Softy for your SG. Something to consider for sure!! I want a cross bones but I am fighting myself in this economy to add another bike right now.
