Just purchased a 2009 Night Train 3 months ago brand new. Unfortunately it just got stolen 2 weeks ago. I put only 800 miles on the bike and insurance is telling me there will be about a $1400 depreciation. Does anyone know if this seems accurate for such a new bike, or is insurance trying to screw me out of 1400 bucks. Thanks for any help.
Agree with the depreciation, but that does not mean you have to settle for what the ins. co. wants to give you. Pull some pricing from NADA, retail values and also get a quote or two from some local dealers on the retail value. You can even pull some off the internet if they are dealers in your region of the country. Take an average of the 2 or 3 quotes and use that to either negotiate more with the ins. co. or it will show you that what they are offering is reasonable. Stick to facts and be willing to show them all your paperwork from the research to support your position for more $$ if that is what's warranted. I know this info from experience and hope it helps you out.
Also, if you can't get anywhere with the adjuster, ask for reveiw and discussion with their manager. If that does not work, then you can ask for the settlement agent to get involved (where the adjuster will pass you off to next) and work with their manager. Bottom line though, keep your cool and be reasonable. They'll throw a few more bucks at it if you can justify it.
