Cheap Bolt On Performance - what to get
I have a 93 heritage softail.
Pretty stock, ev27 cam , standard pipes with balance pipe and cv carby.
Just wondering what everyone recommends as the most effective but not too expensive way for gaining HP.
Some suggestions ive had include- Mikuni HSR42 carb and a decent air filter kit. ( but ive also been told the CV's are easy to modify and saves you hundreds on a new carb.
Another option is a cheap set of strait through pipes, around 300.00 aus
An EV46 cam
What would you get done if you had a few hundred?
cam and breather?
carby and breather
pipes and breather?
any suggestions

Ive got an 89 Electra that has been chopped so doesn't have all the weight.
As to your question about the EV46. I had one in mine and did not have any problems at all. The bike ran well with plenty of responsiveness and power. having said that i haven't ridden other Evos so cant compare but compared to my 1100Honda Shadow -the Evo crapped all over it. Having spoken to a couple of mechanics and suppliers apparently the EV46 is a very popular cam in Aus.
Im getting the engine rebuilt so would be interested in your view on the ev27.The advise Ive got is to stay on the conservative side forstreet bikes.According to Andrews the torque band for the 46 is from 2500 - 6000+rpm. I dont know about you but id be lucky to see 4000 rpm! The EV27 torque band is meant to be from 1500 - 6000.
Do you want to change to the ev46 because you are unhappy with the performance of the 27, have a mate with a Harley running a 46 or been advised by your mechanic to change it.
FYI, in my rebuild Im also moving to a CV carb (replacinga revtech carb)
