repainted tank before clear coating
I am a painter and can tell you that putting clear on is like putting a magnifying glass over anything. It will enlarge the metallic and enhance everything. It will make the FLAT denim appearance glossy and brilliant. As for lighter or darker, it depends on the color it is going over. If I had to chose one I would say ever so slightly darker. I guess the key word would be "BRILLANT" in appearance. If he "BAKES" the clear in a bake booth it will be completely ready to install when you get them back. If not I would wait a week because it may be slightly soft, dry but soft. I did mine in 3 days start to finish. I just was VERY careful during the installation. Sometimes I wished I had 3 or more hands.
Mine was originally DENIM BLACK (flat). Being a painter it looked unfinished to me, like in primer. All my friends would break my B*LLS and say "is that the best you can do is prime it"
That was not meant to be derogatory towards those who like denim.
So I had to paint it a gloss color. I wanted to stay with a black so I painted it Obsidian Black metallic. It looks like it has green and blue metallic in it in the sun. In the shade it looks just Gloss black. When I first put the base color on, it just looked flat and no metallic could be seen. But when the clear went on it Lit up and jumped out at you.
Also with clear on you can wax and polish scuffs or minor scratches you get. You can't do that with flat. IMO
Enjoy your great looking paint job.
My compliments to the painter.
