Removing passenger pillion on Deluxe, fender protection
I want to remove the passenger pillion and rack and run with just a fender bib. I know how to remove the plastic protection on the fender. My question is:
If I want the option of having the pillion and rack back on occasionally, is there anything I can put on or lay over the fender to keep it from scratching the paint?
Put the plastic protection piece back on. Just make sure its clean. My wife had an 07 deluxe and she ran with the solo but when we would put rear seat back on i would use the plastic piece.
I bought a roll of clear vinyl tape just for this purpose. I think it's 2" or so wide, and I cut strips of it and lay it on the fender. Very low-tack adhesive, so it's easy to remove, too.
My Mustang bib almost covers all of the plastic protector. Less than 3/16 sticks out on one side and unless you get down at eyeball level you can't even see it. Actually if the thing was centered on the fender the bib would cover it all.
One member here, I believe it was Keno, said he leaves his bib on when he puts the pillion on. Leaves a couple of temporary dimples but otherwise works fine.
I took off the clear protected tape from my fender and then just used a mustang bib($32.00 e-bay) under the pillion. I have NO/NONE scratching on fender. It works very well. The pillion does leave little dimples on top of bib, but they do disapear after a couple of hours. Good Luck...
