Just joined the forum today and that would be my first question. Why wouldn't HD put the balanced engine on all models? I bought a new '09' Softail Classic about two weeks ago and just love it. Great ride. Congrats and enjoy that bike.

Some people need to feel the vibration I guess for it to be a real Harley to them.
You should put up a post in the new members area Gman... Congrats on the Classic.. you should start a thread with pics of yours also.
Nice! Congrats. Some people would consider that a downgrade, but I consider it an upgrade for sure. It looks like it's quite done up already with a fatcat and all.
Softail frames are designed to have the engine rigid mounted to the frame, so need to be balanced, but there is a small power loss from running the balancing mechanism. EG's engine location necessitates it be rubber mounted, so no balancing required. It shakes like hell at idle, but smoothes out nicely at speed.
