Backfiring?
Here is my bike:
2009 XBones
Exile Exhaust
RSD Intake
PCV
My bike backfires on decel only when the baffles are IN my pipes! If I take the baffles out then there is no backfiring. What would cause this? It only does it on decel, not startup like I noticed a lot of bikes do(I did a search).

not sure about the physics, but changing the intake, exhaust and mapping does something odd. some folks say they've done all that with no popping at all, but the vast majority of folks do end up with that issue. on my 04 NT, I've got a bubs 2-1, hi flow air filter and thunder slide kit for the carb. pops all the time on decel. wife has 08 883XL with slip on python IIIs and hers doesn't do it at all.
it's the same ol' same ol' as to why. air/fuel mixture + heat in the combustion chamber and exhaust... anything left unburnt eventually burns...
from what i've seen here and heard around riding groups, the popping doesn't cause long term damage. some folks will differ in their take on that.
if it really bothers you, I have from trusted sources that getting a complete dyno tune can help minimize, if not eliminate, the popping... but I'm not worried about it. I just ride it like I stole it.
Cheers.

Mine does it....
Keep in mind - when you completely release the throttle - pretty much all fuel is cut off - and I was told that the popping and inhaling sound comes from the combustion stroke that causes a slight amount of "inhalation" into your pipe when off the throttle.
Wont hurt your bike...
Enjoy!
