Default 2010 Heritage~Should I Change the Pipes Before 1000 Miles??~Opinions?

Just bought a new 2010 Heritage Softail. I KNOW I am going to do the Stage 1. V & H Longshots, Stage 1 filter and power pak....should I wait until the 1000 service (break in period) A friend of mine told me it is better to wait and use the stock pipes for the break in period and then change them over......

what do you guys think??

I was told to wait till 1000 mi to do any changing. Don't forget any changes may effect the warranty too. My dealer told me if I burned a valve or something and I did a stage one outside the dealer. ( MEANING PAY DEALER TO UPGRADE) it would be up to me to prove the upgrade didn't cause the damage or premature failure.

All work will be done by the dealer....so I am not worried about the warranty.....I was wondering more about using the stock pipes until 1000 mile service..then change the pipes....

I am going to add alot of bolt on chrome that maybe I will do first....wait for the 1000 miles service...then let them change the pipes...unless for some reason I like the stock pipes and I will leave them on

Dealer wil do stage 1 upgrade with pipes before you even pick up the bike. Don't let any one B.S. you. They'll gladly take your money. Mileage doesn't matter.

Whenever a $tealer give you s*** about warranty remind them of the Magnuson-Moss Act (just make sure you actually know what it entails). This act makes an effort to keep you from getting screwed out of warranty. It applies to many different consumer goods including vehicles. Via this act, the burden of proof that an add-on or aftermarket item screwed things up is on the dealer.

I waited ....and had mine done by the dealer....no regrets...bike runs great.....I think the DYNO depends a lot on who is doing it but my dealer has some great mechanics...pipes, SERT and Dyno alone ran a little over $1500.00 but worth it to me...I know the same dealer sets up brand new bikes with V&H so I don't think it really matters...

Swapped to big radius pipes, SE heavy breather and PC5 at 300 miles. Runs and sounds better. Very simple to install. Just need a few hours and a few beers. Plus it's fun. The stealer is going to charge you probably 300$+ to do it. You can get a ton of help searching the board. Congrats on your new ride.

I changed out the exhaust the second day I had my bike and it has now been just over 4 years and 66,000 miles later and have not had a problem. Go for it.

I waited 'till I had 1,000 miles in case there were any warranty issues. I had an indy do it for several reasons. 1) They charge less, 2) They have it done on time, and most importantly, 3) the dealership has to tune the bike and still meet EPA emissions and sound regulations. The Indy doesn't so the bike is tuned for better performance.
