Default 10K service

new to harleys had street bikes before shoulda switched sooner lol any how what does the dealer do at a 10K service?? thanks

Grab the service manual for your particular bike. It shows the full maintenance schedule as well as all the procedures. I could list out what is done on a 2003 Carb'd Softail if that would be helpful.

at 10,000 Miles Services Needed
ITEM SERVICED PROCEDURE NOTES
Engine oil and filter Replace
Oil lines and brake system Inspect for leaks 1

Air cleaner Inspect, service as required
Tires Check pressure, inspect tread
Primary chaincase lubricant Replace
Clutch Check adjustment 1

Rear belt and sprockets Inspect, adjust belt 1

Throttle, brake, and clutch controls Check, adjust and lubricate 1

Jiffy stand Inspect and lubricate 1

Fuel lines and fittings Inspect for leaks 1

Brake fluid Check levels and condition 3

Brake pads and discs Inspect for wear
Spark plugs Inspect
Electrical equipment and switches Check operation
Engine idle speed Check adjustment 1

Front fork oil Replace every 50,000 miles (80,000 kilometers) 1

Steering head bearings Adjust 1

Steering head bearings Lubricate 2

Steering head bearings Adjust and lubricate every 2500 miles (4000 kilometers) 1,5

Windshield bushings Inspect 1

Springer rocker bearings Adjust 1,4

Fuel door, Tour-Pak, saddlebags Lubricate hinges and latches
Critical fasteners Check tightness 1

Road test Verify component and system functions


NOTES

1. Should be performed by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, unless you have the proper tools, service data and are mechanically qualified

2. Disassemble, lubricate and inspect every 30,000 miles (48,000 kilometers)

3. Change D.O.T. 4 fluid and flush brake system every two years

4. Adjust at 500 miles (800 kilometers)

5. Disassemble, lubricate and inspect every 20,000 miles (32,000 kilometers).

Nothing you can't do yourself with a manual and some basic tools. Hardest thing for me was the steering head adjustment. With all the cables attached I couldn't get an accurate read on the fall away test. Ended up having it done by the dealer @ $42 where I'm sure they just did it by torque or feel.

thanks for the info, didnt figure there would be anything drastic done, just change the fluids , adjust the clutch and give it a good onceover thanks
