Default 1000 mile service WTF!

What does the stealer do during the 1000 mile service that they need to disconnect the battery? I got mine back today and the clock is back to flashing 12:00,12:00,12:00. Which leads me to believe that it was disconnected. I have looked at the list & I see nothing that needs that done for. So what gives? Not that it's a big deal to reset the clock, but I don't trust them as far as I can throw them, I want to know what they did. Especially after the steering head washer fiasco which still isn't resolved but more on that later.

Car service manuals recommend disconnecting the battery for changing plugs, etc..(not that anyone ever does it) I don't know if that would be the case on a bike.

No, I didn't ask them they delivered the bike late this evening then we went riding or I would have. I guess I can see the fuel/spark safety thing.
Thanks

Notice something with this list? There are alot of holes to be filled for one.
Checking electrical equipment? Everything! You wouldn't want pay for that service.

One possibility is that your tech(if you got a very thorough one) disconnected the battery to check for current draw with the ignition switch off. If you felt as though the clock should have been reset you should call the dealer. Tell them you appreciated the service on your bike but, suggest that they set the clock the next time they service the bike. If you can't learn to trust a dealer you either need to develope a relationship or find another dealer. It would be futile to continue to do business without trust.

Rant over

Well if you have the security system, one might disconnect the battery to see if the alarm goes off.

Agreed

Took two dealers to find one I like but once found its nice. I can tell them what I'm looking to do and they can identify EVERYTHING needed to accommodate.

Yeah I have pretty much decided that any warranty service goes elsewhere. But I bought the maintainence package through this dealer.

Virtually everything you do to the bike requires (if you believe the service manual) that you disconnect the battery. If you don't, you will be in danger of "death or serious injury" (again, according to the manual). I highly recommend buying and using the service manual, but I have to admit, I do not always follow the warnings about death or serious injury and I sometimes do not disconnect the battery when performing routine maintenance!
