Likely they pulled the maxi fuse. That's just a good safety practice. Also if they reflashed the ecm it will reset the clock. They would have to reflash it to correct any problems they found starting it, idling or during the road test. My problem hasn't been them doing more than they should, but rather less. Like not finding I had no rear brakes. It might have simply worn out in the 300 miles between service and replacing the rear tire though.
a smart mechanic will disconect the battery every time they work on a bike! this is to prevent shorts, fires, and unnessasary problems... first thing you learn in motorcycle mechanic school... that was a good mechanic
