Default Drag bars... How wide?

I just finished up installing a set of 6" straight risers and some 27" wide drag bars (very small sweep, but not a broomhandle) on my '05 Standard... I like the seating position but I'm finding the bars a bit... narrow.

What width are you folks using?

You will find that we are a small few compared to all the other choices out there as they are not the most comfortable bars to run with. I have 36" wide drag bars, 4° pullback on 4" pullback risers. I could probably go another 2" wide and still make it through traffic. You really need to mock up a few bars and pick your preference.

I'm running the stock risers and bars on my 09 Night Train. Not sure how they measure.

Not sure if its my youth or the excitement of my first bike, but the riding position is comfortable for me. I must have the perfect height/arm length, because I hear of few people being truly comfortable with the stock set up long on longer distances.

Then again it's also my first bike. It's the only thing I know so far for motorcycle comfort!

My Carlini T Bars are 7" rise, 7.75" pullback (If I remember correctly), and 31.5" wide. Before these, I had the Night Train stock risers and bars, but as Hollywood mentioned, some people get aren't comfortable for extended trips with them.

The stock NT drag bars are 27" wide with 6" risers. I found them to be too narrow, so replaced them with a 36" wide set (still was able to use all stock cables and wires...just). I really liked them but eventually switched em for a 33" wide set @ 1.25" diam, and those were the keepers.

Thanks for all the responses!! I took your advice and did a few mock ups with and old set of bars that sacrificed themselves to the cause and I think I came up with a good solution!!

Agreed!!! The 27"ers are not cuttin' it!! For me, 30" was a BIG improvement!! With a 32" overall width being ideal.

Not wanting to spring for another set of risers for fatter bars, I think I'm just going to order up a set wider 1" bars and go from there. Should make for an easy swap! OR... Can the 1.25" bars be "squeezed" into the stock 6" risers?

Any recommendations for the bars?

Check the bars. Most bars that are fatter than 1" are still 1" where the risers clamp.

Most 1.25" bars come "necked" down to 1" at the riser location and at the ends for the switch housings, so no need to swap out any your stock pieces. I found that my 36" wide 1" thick drag bars looked too skinny, so the 1.25" drags 32-34" are ideal (for me anyways).
