Default I need help diagnosing the problem with my bike

I just inherited this bike about two weeks ago along with the good which is it runs good and strong I have inherited the bad which is a problem with it shifting. When shifting gears either up or down I have to give it some gas before it gets into the gear that I want. I am able to get it through all five gears. When traveling highway speed I don’t even notice the problem. It is most noticeable during stop and go traffic. It is also difficult to find neutral. I want to wrench it myself if it is possible. Have worked on cars since a kid on and have done the basic stuff on other people's bikes as well as my Nightster. The bike has a 1340 cc motor with a Revtech transmission

Default Shifting problems

Sounds like the clutch needs to be adjusted, there will be some guys on here that will be able to verify that.

Yeah. I agree. It's something in the clutch. Are you running a wet or dry clutch? If wet maybe the primary is just low on fluid or is running the wrong fluid. That's where I'd look first.

That is my feeling that the clutch needs to be adjusted I just don't know how to do that. Is that something I can do myself or does this require special tools and a certified mechanic?

Would a tranny oil change do the trick? I have a couple of 20-50 Amsoil left over from the last few oil changes on my friend's bikes. How many quarts does this bike require?

I'd check the oil level in the primary. In my service manual it states improper level can cause shifting problems and difficulties in finding neutral. I have an 04 Fatboy. Not sure if this applies to your ride but might be worth checking.

Just double checked the manual and it states "Do not overfill the primary chaincase with lubricant. Over filling may cause rough clutch engagement, incomplete disengagement, clutch drag and / or difficulty in finding neutral at engine idle" Good luck.
