Well after checking my negatives,my voltage reg and so on, I decided to purchase the speed sensor. The local dealer sold me # 74430-00D.. notice the "D" like version 4 or so. Well after I installed I rode about 5 miles and no trouble. Today put on about 75miles and ran perfect. PROBLEM SOLVED.
Took about an hour. My advice is remove the fender splash guard (two bolts) unhook and remove the starter cover. Then you will have plenty of room to get out the old one. Unplug and untangle from other harnesses and unbolt the sensor and pull out the back. The plug is too big to fit between the big harness and frame. Remember this is on FX Softails.
