This is correct, the somewhat confusing element is HD has a specific model called the "Wide Glide" that has a wide glide front end (wide forks), but other HD models also have a wide glide front end; for the 2010 model year these are the Dyna Fat Bob and the Softail Custom. Previous model years having the wide glide front end include the Softail Standard and Softail Night Train. The wide glide front end was derived from the FL front end with the "tins" removed, back in the bobber/chopper era, so in fact any FL front end may be regarded as a wide glide also.
One major difference between an FX wideglide frontend and one you would find on an FLH or FLT (exclude FLST from this) is not just the tins that trim it out, but the geometry of the triple trees is completely different. If you sit on the bike and look at the top of the trees you will notice that the fork stem nut is behind the fork tube caps on a "naked" FX style wideglide. If you look at one on an FLH or FLT or Road King for that matter, the stem nut is in front of the fork tube caps. The typical "naked" wideglide usually sits between 30* to 34* rake depending on model. The typical "full dress" wideglide on an FL is usually sitting at 28* rake. They also have different fork lock mechanisms.
The exception is the FLST, The Heritage, and the Fat Boy trimed out wideglides. The look similar to the FL style because of the trim, but they are in fact trimmed out softail or FX style wideglides.
My personal preference is the FX style wideglide, but then I am a huge fan of the softail. I own and ride a night train, and if I were to buy another bike today it would be a softail.
