Default New to Fat Boy, 'advice'

Hi Guy's

I've just bought a new 2009 Fat Boy and have racked up just short of 1000 mile in two week's. My last bike was an FXDC, which I was well pleased with but I felt that two up it seemed a bit small. The Fat Boy fits the bill perfectly for what I need and I'm very pleased with it so far. I tend to do a lot of two up riding ( wife ), with luggage ( Soft bags ) and stayed away from the tourers because I like the look of a stripped down bike.

any advice re any issues that may appear with the Fat boy would be much appreiated, I've already adjusted the shocks for a stiffer ride, as I had a costly experiance in the past with another bike for keeping the settings as per factory.

Thaks for your assistance

Sharp bike. I think one of the best mods I did to mine was replace the stock fork oil with the heavier SE oil. You wont feel like you are on a boat.

GREAT CHOICE!!! I love my Fatty. one of the first things I did to mine (when I had the stage 1 done) was to replace the head pipes with those from a Heritage. I just can't get into the "shotgun" look. oh, and replaced the seat. I ride 2 up almost all the time - with no backseat complaints.

what happens if you don't adjust the shocks for a stiffer ride in the long run?

how hard is it to change out the oil in the forks?

15 min job.

1)Remove fork caps.

2) Remove drain screw at bottom (The phillips screw at bottom of each fork leg)

3) Replace screw. Pour oil into top of each fork leg.

4) Put fork caps back on.

5) Enjoy

The Softail shocks come from HD at the softest setting, which is for a person weighing about 185 lbs. The OP stated he rides quite a bit 2 up. Without firming the shocks up he would be bottoming out and the handling would suffer.
