Have been running the dealer stage 1 flash for 2 years with BSS and high flow AC, w/ no problems. Installed cams last winter and have been running them with stage 1 flash w/ no problems.
If on a budget, check out Revtech / Techlusion DFO rather than dealer flash. Can be found on ebay, very easy to install, uninstall, and they provide excellent customer support.
the stage 1 download is set up for the screamin eagle air cleaner and the screamin eagle slip ons. it fattens up the fuel only enough to compensate for the improved flow, but also raises your rev limiter from 5500 stock to 6200. i put on a power commander five, also known as the PCV, and am not as impressed as i was expecting. gas mileage went from 40+ to low/mid thirties. riding the same as before installing it. it does though, seem to have more torque while accelerating. this experience is with the canned map from fuelmoto, i suppose it'd wake up a bunch if i actually had it dialed in on a dyno by a skilled tuner.
Have been running with a PCIII for about 1yr now with no issues and that is in the AZ heat. You can adjust fuel and ignition maps with it and it can be dynotuned. New they are about $300 new. Bit of a pain to install, but works well. There are many threads on this to read here.
called dealer they gave me a good price on cam swap said the flash only changes fuel setting not timing they suggested aSE tuner but recomended the power commander

One of the reasons your mileage went down, your motor wasn't being starved for fuel
pjd832 if you like to tinker with your motor exhaust / intake / fuel, get a piggy back,
but if you plan on leaving it alone maybe the "reflash" is right for you , if you want to richen later you can add XiED's
If your dealer doesn't have a dyno machine, they will try to sell you on the flash...
Because they can't support a tuner.
If you're watching dollars, check into the V&H Fuel Pak, inexpensive and programmable. NOT as tuneable as the more expensive models, but not a flash either.
I have 2 Softails, an '07 Heritage that is dealer flashed and an '09 Deluxe with the FuelPak... I LOVE the FuelPak.
Cost wise, I think the stealer flash is around $150... the FuelPak is around $259.
one you decide what you want check the classified on this forum. I got my thundermax for $450 used. just a little more than a good dyno tune. I sold my pciii for $150 there.
here is one listed. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-for-sale.html
