I recently bought a custom derby cover for my 08 Fatboy. Upon receiving it I noticed that the inside was completely different than my stock cover. Where my stock one has a groove that the gasket fits in, the new one is flat, like it needs a flat gasket. Also, my primary is recessed to accept the cover. the new cover does not fit into the recess. Is there an alternate gasket for the primary or did I get a wrong part?
The aftermarket derby covers require a full gasket (one that covers the entire hole) rather than the ring style. No big deal...the dealer has them. If fact, I'm surprised they didn't tell you this when you bought it.
The gasket must be installed in a particular direction but it's spelled out on the gasket. Just read the writing.
Pick one up...they're cheap.
I'm not sure what to say if the cover doesn't fit into the recess. Unless you bought the cover for a different model bike. Check the part numbers with the HD website under accessories. You should be able to swap it for the correct part if you have all the packing materials.
