I am thinking of having my stock Fat Boy wheels chromed. Anyone had this done, and if so are you happy with the cost and results? I am wondering if it would be better and less expensive to do this as opposed to buying a new chromed front and rear wheel.
I know there is a guy (Joe) on ebay which goes by the name of WillyShiny which does great chroming. He has a set of fat boy rims for 895 right now. You need to take a look at them. It would be a lot cheaper than buying new chrome rims from HD.
I got mine from a chrome exchange program. I think they where chrome pros plating. I'll have to check my reciept. They did a great job. Harley's wheel is not smooth in the holes. You can get them for about 600-700 bucks on the exchange program. Take a look on ebay.
What year fatboy? Keep in mind 07 is different then 08-09. The 07 has a different offset in the front wheel.
I might be changing mine to black, probably sell these.
Try ebay first. By the time you remove tires, bearings, seals, etc. it will probrobly be cheaper to buy a set and sell yours. Also there are alot of chrome companies who have sets chromed that you can swap. Less down time.
I had Chrome Pros Plating in Corpus Christi, Tx do my wheels a year or so ago. These guys do excellent work, but if you send them in, be prepared not to ride your bike for 2-3 months. It took them almost 3 months to get mine back, luckily, I still had my stockers, so I could still ride. Their customer sevice isn't the best in the world and they returned them to me COD, which was ok, provided they would have informed me they were coming. I was fortunate UPS called the day before they arrived, so I was prepared. They usually keep a supply of FB wheels, so you can do the exchange thing with them.
Edit: Click my garage for before and after pics of the wheels.

I do have another question about these places that offer wheel exchanges. Do any of these places offer chrome wheels with my choice of tires, in exchange for my wheels and tires? If not, then I think the practical thing for me to do is to wait until my stock tires are worn and need replaced, and then I only need to take the wheels off once to replace both wheels and tires.
I may have been the first customer for Chrome Pros to do a set of the 07 FB wheels. and yes they did take their time. I noticed some blemishes when I got them back but you would have to get very close to notice, at that time (over 2 years ago), I paid $550 to have them chromed. Chrome is the only way to go on the 50 cal. wheels, IMO
