What should I do first. Put the pipes on myself and then take my 01 softail standard to the dealership for the download and filter, or get the filter and download first and then put the pipes on. Any thoughts
It is best to do it all at once. However, if doing it in steps then it should be the pipes first. Reason is, after the air filter change, the bike will run too lean and could cause damage. The download will fix the mix. Usually changing out the mufflers won't have too much affect. H-D has slip on mufflers that won't change the exhaust too much, but drag pipes and pipes without crossovers or baffles etc may affect performance. Don't wait too long after the pipe change for the filter and download. No sense in taking chances.
Exhaust first, then air cleaner and Power Commander III. I have tried both and was happier doing it myself. The PCIII was more flexible and I could change components. IMHO.
