Default 1992 Fatboy Questions

I'm new to the forum and have a question. I'm a metric rider (Insert groan here) with a 2000 Honda Aero 1100. My father recently acquired a 1992 Fatboy from a friend who could no longer ride, and the bike just doesn't fit him with its forward controls. He's offering a straight trade for my bike which his short 5'4" body can fit on. Anyone have any knowledge about the early 90's Fatboys, good and bad? Thanks for the help.

I don't have a lot of info about Fatboys, and nothing against the Honda, but that's a trade I would take all day long... How many miles are on the Fatboy?

Evo engine, easy maintenance - change the oils, adjust the primary chain once in awhile. If the base gaskets aren't leaking, and the cases aren't weeping, it's a good one. If the base gaskets are weeping, it's an easy 1 day fix.

That straight up trade is possible 'cause he's your Pop, otherwise you'd be forking over a big pile of bucks. Do it. Later, if you decide you don't like the bike, you're in a much better position to bargain for a trade-in, or outright sale.

Your looking at at least a $4,000.00 difference between the FB and the honda. I'd trade anytime. The 1992 FB is easy to upgrade if you want. The evo engine is a great engine and runs forever. Mostly it depends on the shape of the FB. If it is any kind of shape at all I'd trade.

Welcome to the forum!

As I see it the question is kinda like - Deal? or No Deal?

Like others have said - take the deal. I'm sure since it's your Dad's bike you've ridden it before and the bikes are in comparable condition. The Fatboy will probably shake ya a little more than your Honda. I had a '93 EVO Fatboy - liked it a lot - plus, the chicks will dig ya on a Harley .

Um, if you don't want the deal, ask your Dad if he will adopt me. I'll take the Fatboy off his hands!

Thanks Everyone,

In answer to all the questions, the FB has 40,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. Upgrades include, pipes, front end, new forward controls, custom paint...the list goes on and on. I bought metric because I'm a rescue boat captain and it didn't make sense to fork over the bucks for a harley with the limited time I have to ride in the warmer months, but this seems like a no-brainer.
