Default Are tire plugs safe ?????????????

A buddy of mine got a new bike (screaming eagle fat bob) it has 1,000 miles on it and he got a nail in his back tire .should he plug it or get a new tire. He wants to be safe so if the plug is a bad idea he will spend the money for a new tire.

Considering that only a small patch of rubber meets the road and keeps you upright---new tire! But that's just me.

Thousands upon thousands of miles on plugged motorcycle tires and never had a problem. Of course, I use plug patches and do it the right way. I have people give me tires free of charge a lot of times that have a small hole in them because they refuse to ride on them plugged. Don't bother me any at all, with 4-5 bikes in the garage and 30K plus miles a year I can use all the free tires I can get my hands on.

Plug it properly and forget about it.

+1 Although I have heard some guys rum on plugs without problems. Tube idea better if he wants to keep tire, but ya still gotta take it off to do that.

I've plugged tires forever and never had any problems. No leaks no nothing.

Now that I'm running tubes, I'd probably be OK with plugging.

If I ever get forged wheels and go tubeless again, no way.

I had a puncture on my back tire 2 months ago, patched it from the inside, after 2,000 miles still good

I'd plug a car tire, but never a bike.

Never, never, never, never!

For those that do, and get away with it? Good for you!
But you ain't gonna change my mind.
