Default 2006 Heritage Python Staggard duals problem

Ok guys...I am in the middle of installing a set of Python staggard duals on my 2006 Heritage classic. Had to take the right floorboard off to get the pipes on and now the floorboard will not go back on. The floor board is touching the heat shield and still has 1/4" to go to get the hole in the floorboard to line up with the hole in the floorboard mount.

Has anyone seen this?

Well I was able to get the floor board on. I loosened the heat shields some and fought until I could get the holes to line up and got the bolt through. The floorboard is rubbing on the heatshield though. It makes the floorboard pretty tight and doesn't fold up as easy as it did.

Am I correct when I say the floorboard should not be touching the heatshield?

There should not be a problem, a friend put them on a 06 Heritage two weeks ago and no problmes. Make sure that everything is in the right place.

After loosening everything again and moving some stuff around I got them to fit alittle better...now the floorboards are only hitting the pipes in one small place...but when they fold up they really rub the pipe. I'm hoping this doesn't leave a mark on the pipes.

Hey KY23,

I installed V&H Big Shot Staggered pipes on my 04 FatBoy with stock floorboards. When I was shopping for pipes, I was told that the Pythons you have were the same pipes as mine (parent-subsidiary company or something like that / both pipes look the same and have the same crossover). Anyway, I have no clearance issues with my floorboards - I'm guessing that the drive floorboards/mounts are the same for both of these softtail models. If the above is accurate, check everything again...I assume the pipes are fully inserted in the exhaust port, etc.

Also, call the exhaust manufacturer and tell them your problem. When I was shopping for an exhaust, I called V&H research dept. Coincidentally they were just finishing the R&D for the fit of the Big Shots Stags on 04 FatBoys. They called me back a few days later and said there was no problem with fitting those pipes on 04 FatBoys.

Good luck. If your pipes are like mine you'll like them...the hidden crossover between the pipes is great! Allows for a balanced, deep, mellow, non-harsh sound without the baffles with my set-up (95 ci kit, high compress cast pistons, 251 midrange cam, heavy duty valve springs, adj pushrods, SE Mikuni carb, SE intake kit, tappets, and 6200rpm module....HD all the way except the pipes). It's rip snorting fun...I've never had to come close to full throtle to get out of the way...even 2-up

Regards
AlbertG

AlbertG, thanks for the info. When you fold your floorboards up do they hit your pipes at all? When they are down how much of a gap are between your pipes and floorboard?

Hey KY23,

No contact with the floorboards in the 'up' position. I'm guessing approx 1/4" clearance in the down position. I have stock floorboards...hope that helps...good luck
