I just changed all three fluids yesterday to Amsoil. I have a 2009 Road Glide, and according to articles written.... I put 20W50 in crankcase, Severe Gear 75W90 in the transmission, and 10W40 in the primary chain case. These weights match what HD oils are.
I always used Amsoil 75/140 severe gear oil in all of my trans until this '09
Heritage I have now. I tried the Redline shock proof heavy in it and just as soon
as the spring riding season gets here, it will come out.
Any time I put the Amsoil in the other bikes, at about 1000 miles, the trans
shifted smooth and was quiet in 5th gear. This Redline is not performing up
to what I heard on here that it would. The trans does not shift as smooth as
it should and 5th gear is not as quiet as the Amsoil would be. Most guys on here
swear by this Redline, but I do not. You will be happy with the Amsoil.
About the Syn3, I have never used it. ...jmho...
+1 on the tranny but hes talking about the primary............thats too thick for the primary i think, ya might get slippage when shifting gears..........severe gear is for the trans..............
Agree that is too hreave an oil for the primary. I changed from Syn 3 in the trany to Mobile 1 75/140 and like the Mobile 1 better. Can find neutral easier and shifting seems quieter. I run now Mobile 1 20/50 in the motor and Syn 3 in the primary.
The last two services I had done while under warranty at two different dealer even don't use syn 3 in the tranny any more,, but 1 uses formula+ and the other uses Bel-ray80-140.
I will be using mobil 1 v twin this spring... 20-50 in motor and pri, 75-90 in tranny...and planning on staying with this setup, the mobil 1 v-twin is really easy to get now...
Thanks guys, changed the crankcase and tranny already with syn-3. guess i will redrain the tranny and put in the amsoil 75-140 in there. I think i must have A.D.D. or some thing. luckily i didnt open the primary yet.
+1 oct.....syn3 = chit............mobil1 is good oil(use it in all automobiles) but never used it im my bike, i use 20/50 amsoil in primary and oil, belray 80/90 severe gear in the trans...........i did add lucas oil additive to the primary last time but cant tell the diff but proly prolongs the life on the chain and tensioner........
