On the front fork assembly do you know what the service manual is referring to as the lower pinch bolts and upper bracket pinch bolts. I think the lower ones are the at the bottom of the fork on the right (exhaust) side. I have no idea what they are referring to as the upper bracket ones. The same goes for the rear master cylinder mounting nut. Thanks for any information.
The pinch bolts are the ones on the triple tree that clamp the fork tube into them. There is one bolt for each tube in the lower tree and another one for each in the upper tree.
On bikes with FX style front forks its fairly easy to see, but on your FL I think they may be hidden under the chrome covers.
Can't find my damn service manual right now to confirm that.
The rear master cylinder is mounted at the front of the floorboard on the right (exhaust) side. The bolt is on there someplace, sorry I can't be more specific right now.
Again I can't find my service or parts manual to give you a better description.
Pinch bolts are on the trees. They squeeze the snot out of the fork tubes via a slot in the trees to prevent rotation and movement locking up the front end components. As
Citoriplus mentioned, most likely hidden under covers on your bike. You will see them if you remove these.

Thanks, the manual does not have a good diagram of them. I guess I need to pull the chrome cover off and check them. I see why HD charges $300 - $500 for this service. If the techs actually do everything on the list, there is quite a bit of labor.
On my Heritage they're in the front about an inch under the front chrome piece. Should be able to see them if you look under them. Are you doing your steering head adjustment or just checking critical fasteners.
I dicked around with that fall away crap for the SH adjustment but wasn't able to get an accurate result because of drag from the various cables. Ended up getting it done at the dealers while it was in for something else. $75.

The steering head bearing adjustment procedure was written by someone at the factory using a partially built bike on a perfectly level surface. I put mine on the jack and observed all the cable restrictions preventing symmetric "fall away". Mine fell away, just more to one side due to all the cable restrictions. The fact that it fell away told me it was not too tight so I just verified the bearings were not loose (no extra slop) and left it at that. I think that procedure is designed to sway folks to bring it into the dealer. I just completed the 10k maintenance in my garage.

Yeah you wouldn't mind paying for the service if they did everything called out. However my dealer like a lot of others skip over a lot of things.
