Default True Duals Install...

Ok, I've talked with some of you Harley Forum-ers, and have a lot of different scenarios about doing a true dual install myself. My plan is this: I want to install Samson true duals and i am wondering which fuel management system to go with..ie; Fuel pak, Power commander, etc. Which one do you feel is most user friendly and which go best with the Samson true duals? Also, is a harley download necessary, or can i go with the fuel manager and a K & N or SE or other hi flow filter upgrade. I'm sure there are quite a few of you that have done this exhaust install/ fuel management upgrade yourself and I am ready to hear any and all of your input. Thanks Brothers and Sisters for your help and patience. Jon

Also, who has the best prices/service and tech support??

I am researching the true duals myself. In my area it seems most shops with a dyno perfer the power commander. I know the sert has more advantages, but I do not know where I can get a bike properly tuned with the sert. The pc is more user friendly, so I have read.

There are numerous, and I mean numerous, threads on this topic if you do a little reasearch. Sometimes I feel like keeping the one that I posted and just keep reposting it. There is one that is held at the beginning of this forum section, too, I think.

If you want to save money, you will make one decision.

If you want the best there is, then you will make another one.

Some HD dealers are authorized to dyno Power Commanders, some are not. Some don't have a dyno. A SERT needs a dyno, too. Not everyone can properly set up a bike on a dyno, no matter what add on ECU you get.

The SERF is not tuneable enough for anything other than pipes and air cleaner. It is debatable whether you should combine a SERF with an HD download or not.

You don't need a download for a fully programmable ECU like the SERT or the PC's. (Vance and Hines has one that you can program without a laptop, too... I would call it a SERF on steroids... but you have to depend upon their collection of configurations to get a good set up.). I believe that there's another product that completely replaced your Harley ECM, but I'm not sure... I didnt' investigate it beyond what I've mentioned here and I'm happy with my PCIII except that I lost 5 miles to the gallon and so I need to go spend $150 to get some of it back. 150 tanks of gas later, I will have recaptured my dyno expenses if I'm lucky.

JonnyD- Latus Motor will dyno either the Power Commander or their SERT. The power commander is the same company, Dyna, that makes the Dyno in most of the Harley shops. Go visit Latus motors website, click on service, click on ask Mike and you can ask the guy any kind of questions. He is the guy that builds all the race Harleys for Latus. Has an article in this months american iron mag. Very bright guy with lots of experience modifying Harleys.

You can read the dyno charts that they have on line for all the bikes and they cover almost all the pipe mfg. SE, Bassini, V&H, Samson, Python and more. You get to check out the HP and TQ readouts for the various engine and pipe mods. They call the replacement of mufflers and air cleaner the "aero kit".

Hope this helps.

Each person will have his/her opinion. I will stick with my PC which I've run on several bikes thus far. I didn't have a download done because it isn't necessary. Some people will have it done anyway just in case the PC crashes.....at least the bike will be running fine with the download. I didn't though. Before I leave N.C......I may have the download done and then download a different map for my PC. I don't know how dealerships are in other states about the PC. At least in another state, I can disconnect the PC and take the bike in for work........I don't have to do that here. The Sert does more as per my reading around on the forum. But the PC fits my comfort level, I'm used to it, and I can do things with it quickly. I truly believe that the Sert does more though. Buuuttt, it's up to you.
