If the dealer will take it in trade, you'll get next to nothing for it. You might do a little better selling it outright, but a 12 year old bike isn't going to appeal to a lot of people.
If you can afford to keep it and address the leak, that'll be your best bet.
New bikes are nice to have and it's tempting to trade up when you see the shiney new metal on the showroom floor. If you can swing the coin, trade up. I can tell you this, there's been a lot of evolution on these bikes since 1998; bigger engines, better brakes, more gears, wider tires, and the list goes on. It's a new year, I say out with the old, in with the new. Good luck in whatever you do.
Thanks everyone. May look into getting a new one after selling the old girl. But until then, will enjoy her as much as I can before falling into another note.
Personal opinion: some people find evos "a thing to aquire". If its possible, id keep her AND buy a newer bike...its all about what ya want and can afford tho. Good luck in whatever happens on this!

I have bothe an EVO and a TC and its like getting on 2 differnt horses power wise. I got the EVO last summer , never road one before, drove 500 miles to pick it up and rode it home, nothing like and EVO. But the again the WG is an adrenaline RUSH.
She needs companionship... Park another beside her..
what U'll get for her is probably not going to be what U'd like to get,,, My neighbor still loves his evo and couldn't sell her ,, even more than his newer RG that he got.....
don't think he'll ever part with the Evo....
This one is my first Harley and a Harley is all I really ever wanted. Because of that I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. I might get a new one someday but I'll probably hold on to this one forever.
Thanks for the replies fellas. What do you guys think would be the solution to the leaking rocker boxes on my old girl? Replace the jugs?
It is just the base gaskets, the ones in there are made of paper and the heat dries them out and they just fall apart. The replacements are metal and will put a stop to this problem. It is an easy fix and can be done in about 20 minutes at a cost of about 15 bucks per cylinder. If you just have your heart set on a new bike, get one but dot not let a 98 go because of such a minor problem.
I would much rather have the older bike. There is alot of knoweledge about them out there, the new bikes it is hard to find anyone with enough knowledge to work on them properly when something goes wrong and it will at some point.Had a 07 Sporster that I really liked, started having a problem,I had to tell the HD techs where to start, then they drug their feet.I finally got rid of the bike for one with less modern stuff on it.
Although bikes have evolved, its not like later models dont have their own stuff. 2000 could get you the short lived MM efi, 2000-2006 headset clunks or rear fender not centered and cam tensioner setup that needs replacing, 07-09 provides you with the 5th gear whine that was fixed on 2010... Your rocker box leaks sounding pretty good right now and less costly!
