Question. I've had this 1998 Heritage Softail for a bit. The bike is beautiful but the constant leaking rocker boxes have worn me thin. My question, should I pay for a rebuild (bore kit) or should I cut my losses and sell/trade it for a new bike? If I do get new bike, looking at putting at least $2k down so should I just sink that into the ol' girl?
I heard somewhere that HD won't take a trade-in on anything over 10 years old. I haven't been able to confirm that one way or the other. Maybe someone here can.
It would be nice to keep your Heritage, fix her up when you can, and get a new bike as well. A lot of folks swear by the Evo motor and you have one of the last one's. I don't remember if the Heritage switched to TC in 99 or 00. I have an old 99 FLHT I'm fixing up to be better than a new bike and it has real character.
New gaskets didn't work?. Warped? Cost to repair? Mileage?
If the bike is otherwise in good shape why drop 20k into another one. In any case I wouldn't feel right about selling the bike to someone else w/o disclosing the rocker box issue.
I'd probably fix the problem and then decide whether I really wanted or needed a new bike.
