If you run the model spike95 has the heat is not and issue. If you run the model that both pipes run in front of the cam cover you'll probably want to spring for the shields. They do sound good.

The TH is certainly a great pipe, but I personally cannot recommend the black ceramic coated ones. Not only did my black V&H Big Radius pipes start rusting before having them for even 2 years, but I know a guy with the black TH and it is corroded all to hell. Kinda adds to the look of his bike, tho, since it's kinda ratty, but if you want to keep it looking nice, I don't recommend it, unless you don't mind pulling it off and re-coating it ever couple years. I think it depends on the climate you're in and how much you ride in the rain. Here in Japan, it is humid and I ride in the rain from time to time, so my pipes probably started to rust prematurely, especially up by the head. As with any metal surface that gets really hot, corrosion is accelerated when moisture is added, even with the ceramic coating. Best protective coating is chrome.

Thumbs up 2003 Black Thunderheader

Installed back in 2003, as you can see no rust what so ever... take care of your equipment with proper mainenance and a regular coating of pigspit and you'll be alright
