So I am looking at buying the SE 95" stage 1 kit for my 04 softail. What should I expect to pay to have this done? (if I provided the complete SE kit) I probably wouldnt go through a dealer, although the one local dealer charges $47 per hour, which is pretty reasonable. We do have a couple of indys around I could check out too.
I am in Iraq right now and would most likely wait til spring to get it done. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but I dont think this is a project I could take on myself.
Mike, This is from a local indy here in Colorado springs who does excellent work. A good baseline idea on cost although you know everything is.......variable!!
Deluxe 95" Conversion - Cams, Headwork, Cylinders, Pistons, Compression, Reed Valve, etc. - All the Good Stuff!
Full Warranty ...only $2,750 (plus ignition, or EFI tuner)
Basic 95" Conversion - Cams, Cylinders & Pistons
Full Warranty ....$1800 (plus ignition, or EFI tuner) Economy 95" Conversion - Cylinders & Pistons
Full Warranty ....$1090 (plus ignition, or EFI tuner)
There are much better kits out there than the "out of the box" 95 inch SE kit. Find an indy wrench that you trust, tell him what you want out of it, and how you ride. See what he suggests.
I dont ride hard at all. I probably don't even need the 95"....I am just about out of stuff to mod so I gotta do something!! The only reason I have been looking at 95" is because the Screamin Eagle kits were discontinued and are readily available very cheap. I am pretty easy on the throttle (I think anyway...my wife disagrees when she is behind me). I replaced my rear tire at 11k miles and still had about 30-40% tread and still about 1k left on the front tire. To me thats an indicator that I dont ride too hard anyway.

I just need another project on this thing...
Wow, what a problem to have...money to spend and nowhere to spend it. You own a Harley so there's always somewhere to spend $$$. Once you go with the 95 in. that will open up several other areas to mod and spend more $$$.
Have fun...It's an obsession!!
i have the cylinders and pistons for my conversion to 95" just need some money now for labour and cams, lookin forward to it! will that push it to the 90 hp mark?
Thanks for all the input. I really dont think I NEED the extra giddyup for now. I am really just bored and feel like I must mod something.
So...I decided to go with a new style with the bike. I got a set of hard street glide bags and am looking for a 04-05 fatboy rear fender, which from pics I have seen will match perfect length wise with mounting the hard bags. I am also going to get a batwing fairing for an FL softail and use JACKLE's brackets with windshield clamps to put it on my FX front end. He did this on a wide glide front end which should be the same as mine. I will probably finish it off with a wrap around fender and next time around a 120/70-21 tire up front.
Gonna build myself a little street glide look alike out of my softail. All quick disconnect so I can strip it down.

Depends on the parts. What kind of pistons (comperssion ratio), cams, heads, exhaust, tuner? At one time my bike had the factory 95 inch kit (around 9:1 compression) with a SE211 cam, V&H BSS, and a Power Commander it made 89hp and 96 tq. I've seen 95" motors make in excess of 120 hp with the rigth stuff. All depends on the parts you use.
