Hello. I am new to this site and love it. I have a question regarding fuel cells. I have a 2003 Heritage that I am going to fit Vance and Hines Big Shot Longs on. I am also going to put an air cleaner and fuel pack on it. It appears to me that most people use the Power Commander III. Since I'm going to do the work myself, I was wondering if I should use the P.C. III or just get the V & H fuel cell as I don't want to get into the whole Dyno thing. Also what Air cleaner would you recommend. I hear alot about the Arlen Ness Big Sucker and well as Screaming Eagle. Thank you.
PC III is the way to go with your bike. I will skip the why one system over another because, well its been said to often and just tapers off into silly arguements.
I would go with PC III. It is an easy install to do yourself, though make sure to read the installation guide properly. Different bikes hide the PC III in different places. But overall it is a very easy install. Make sure you check whether your bike requires the aux battery to run the PC III during programing or if your bikes power powers it during programing. (once running your bike will power it, but during programming with your engine off, some hd models will not power the PC III).
I had one on my Heritage Classic 06 and that require the aux battery. The reason I bring it up. Check it before you finish hiding away the PCIII unit, because if you do, you want to make sure you hide the unit in a way that you can access it easy enough to hook in the little battery connector. Of course you also need to access it with the USB cable.
Then look for a good map that meets your setup either here or on the PC website, download it to your PC (laptops are ideal here) and follow the instructions on how to upload it to your PCIII.
Thank you, I ordered the P.C.III this morning then went on the web site and saw the P.C. V. I called fuel moto and they explained that the V was much more advanced so I changed my order to that one. The V was about $60.00 more. I also called and ordered pipes. Vance and Hines big shot longs. I got them for the 07 and newer bike that will have provisions for o2 sensors even though my bike (03) doesn't have o2 sensors. The reason for that is the new P.C. V adjusts itself if you choose to set it up that way, but does so thru o2 sensors that I can install in the pipes if I choose to go that route in the future. All pretty confusing but you never know what tomorrow brings. Thanks for the response and info.
