Default Hi Everyone & a question

Just registered and wanted to say "Hi!"

One question - I wanted to put new pipes on my 2006 Heritage and I have been reading through your posts on the subject - what would make me choose a full exhaust system over slip ons? I'm looking more for sound that performance (I'm no speed demon) but better gas mileage never hurts. Whatcha think?

Welcome from Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada. I used slip ons, the best bang for your buck.

Welcome to the forum. You know we love pics around here

That's a good question about the exhaust and I'm not sure I have a good answer. But I would think there are various factors that would influence the decision. Exhaust style, performance, sound, brand preference, etc. Picking the right exhaust might require a little research. There is such a wide variety avaiable. Good luck with your choice!

If you decide to go with a true dual set-up, you will see a noticeable decrease in the heat that comes from the rear cylinder, it eliminates the pipe that is under your right leg, and if you ride two-up your passenger will appreciate it also... I also believe you will get better performance from a full set-up...but what do i know!

Welcome, and enjoy the ride!

I prefer full----I currently have full; but have used slip ons when I was only concerned with sound and not performance.

If you have the cash, go with the full exhaust!!!! If you are wanting to watch the $$$, go with the slip-ons....preferably Cycle Shack!!!! I just sold mine to my roommate (she had the SEII) and she has a Heritage....the Cycle Shack were louder and honestly, they sound as good as my V&H and are about $400 less.

I've got an '06 Heritage also. When I picked it up the dealer said I could put slip-ons on for sound with no mods needed. I went the full exhaust route. Vance & Hines stepped drag pipes, screaming eagle air cleaner, power commander and a dyno tune. The print out from the dyno said I gained about 10 hp and a ton of torque. I can really tell the difference going through the gears. Way cool. These pipes may be too loud for a lot of people (my wife included). I might consider eventually try the quieter baffles. Until then she can wear earplugs. If you just want noise...buy the slip-ons. If you do go the full exhaust route, pay the money and have the dyno done. You might as well have the ability to use all the power the 88B was designed for.

Welcome to HDF, read alot and learn. Lots of nice people here. Hold on to your wallet ! The fun has begun.

I went with a full exhaust because the stock pipes on the Deuce and fatboy look bad to me and they are too hot for the passenger's right foot. Make sure you re-jet (carb) or re-map (fuel injection). With slip-ons you make get away without it depending on how much the flow changes. If you add the aftermarket air filters like K&N or SE, then you will need to for sure.

I had slip-ons on my last bike, an import.

But I went with the whole Vance and Hines system, Screamin Eagle Air, and remap to get the little extra performance out of it while making it sound like a Harley needs to sound.
