If you are asking me, I wish I had gotten V/H BS Longshots now instead of V/H BS staggard shots (got them 3 weeks ago). The Staggards get soot all over my Whitewall tire and on the rear fender. The Longs would get the exaust all the way too the rear tire and stop all that. Oh well, live and learn. Yes they are loud, I tried an even louder baffle and went back to the stock VH baffle.

Maybe if you can tell us what your plans are with the bike... I mean do have any mods you were thinking of? Or style you were planning on building? The 3 bike are all good and would make great bar hoppers and trips... but if you're getting something mainly to do road trips i'd tell you to go with a touring model.

I've owned a Street Bob (Dyna) and now own a Night Train (Softail) and love both, but wouldn't own a V Rod just because it is a wannabee crotchrocket. I had the king of crotchrockets (Hayabusa) so owning another wouldn't even be comparable.

I was pondering the same dilemma between those bikes as well. Once I sat on the Deluxe with it's nostalgic look is what ultimately sold me. The bikes that come in a close second would be the Crossbones, Road King, Fatboy - in that order. The V-rod is an impressive bike but I would be too tempted with the speed and performance which could get me into trouble.

I have V&H BSS and I could not be happier. Been around lots of friends bikes with alll kids of Rush and SE exhaust and I love the BSS. Really deep rumble, not deafening at idle at all but sure can hear them when you twist the throttle. Definitely not obnoxious. And you can buy the quiet baffles if you like and from what I've read, it makes the tone even deeper (never heard for myself though).

Back to the ops' question...I was torn between a Deluxe, Heritage, Road King, and Fatboy when I bought. I love them all but always liked the Heritage with all the studs and nostalgic looks.(thats why I love the Deluxe as well!...nostalgia) Plus, you can get quick detach for everything including bags and strip it down within 2 minutes. It really depends on looks and feel for you. You cant go wrong with any with regards to ride and comfort. Any of those bikes can do it all...short trip around town, long trip...doesnt matter!

Ive had both Dyna and Fat Boy, I traded my Dyna SG after I borrowed a Fat Boy from my dealer whilst the Dyna was in for a service. I found the fat boy to be a bit more room'y, with two up, which is how I do most of my riding. My wife say's its like having your own place, compared to the Dyna which seemed on times a bit squashed with two up.
The Dyna is fantastic on fuel consumption,& cheep to insure compared to the Fat Boy, the ride on the Dyna is however not as stable as the Fat Boy, which feel's like its glued to the road. Personally, if I was single and wanted a good looking bike for trips of about 300 miles a day I'd go for the Dyna, The Fat Boys a Great bike and I love it, I love stripped down bikes & hence not a fan of the baggers, however, the Dyna's nippy, like the V Rod and versitile like the Fat Boy, best of both worlds. The Fat Boys a slugger, comfortable and solid, but heavey, uses more fuel and a lot more expensive to buy & insure in the UK, . Realy you need to ride the both to get the feel, right now the Fat Boy suites my need's so I'm happy with the bike, especally as the dealer bought the Dyna back for the same price that I paid for it, & that was 18 months on, best of luck in your decision, its a toughiee,

I have ridden all three. A softtail is a nice around town or cruising bike. I have a springer softtail and have ridden across the country on it and ride all around town, nice smooth great ride. The dyna is a little more of an agressive bike. I like the mid controls and have looked at them recently. It is like the softtail but the engine vibrates a lot more, and it feels more sporty feeling with the mid controls. The vrod is built for speed. Not really a mountain bike, more of a straight road bike, but it will smoke all of the others. So do you want the smooth lines of the softtail that is great at everything. Or do you want a more agressive dyna, or the flat out speed of the vrod.

Get a FLSTC/I, & when you take a trip you'll have the bags and windshield. When around town it's easy to detach them off, and now you have a "hot-rod" bike...
