Default Batwing with wind

Hi everybody

I´m interested in a Batwing fairing for my Heritage Softail 2009
Someone in the spanish forums said me that the batwing with wind or overtaking trucks and heavy vehicles, is ungovernable and very dangerous, What do you think about that?
How works the batwing with high speeds 80 or 90 milles

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! I think I understand what your asking (as your English is better then my Spanish).

It really depends on what "brand" of fairing you buy. Some unknown brand may fit like junk and ride like it as well. Most Softail fairings are detachable and not hard mounted like you would find on a Electragilde. So you must be sure it is mounted securely. This has been the only issue that I know of from those guys who ride with them.

As far as the fairing itself, they are very safe. Of all people Harley Davidson would not put them on so many bike if they handled bad or unsafe. Just be careful you do not put to much weight on the front. The Softail suspension was not built for real heavy fairings.

In general they do make your Softail handle a little different. I will let someone who has one and rides with it more often expand on that.

I run with a wide open custom fairing on my Heritage. I have no wind issues with it and I've been in some fairly severe winds in Arizona.

I have both a HD Low profile windshield and now a Memphis Shades Batwing fairing and a Memphis Shades sport windshield and in my opinion the Batwing Fairing is much more stable at speed and in high winds than a windshield. I do a lot of freeway riding at avg speeds of 75 -85 and I live in the desert so we have high winds as well and thwith the fairing my fatboy is much more stable than it is with a windshield.

I put almost 3000 miles on a Memphis Shades batwing fairing with the 7" windshield in all kinds of riding conditions. I can't say it was more stable than with the stock windshield, but it absolutely was not less stable. Looked good, too. Only sold it because I wanted to get back to the stock Heritage look.
