Rocky,
I dig your bike and I am definitely a fan of your threads. With that said, does your bike have a single mod that cant be purchased over the counter? (I say that with respect because I know mine doesn't.) You will not compete with folks with custom paint and body work until it does. Shows are about pushing the envelope and making a bike/ car as unique as possible while still holding true to the fundamental principles of art. Again I love your bike but it is not unique enough to place at a big show yet.
With regard to your display, It needs to be as unique as your bike. plastic chains and corner posts are the norm ( you said so yourself). You have to find something new. The colors on your bike traditionally represent aviation (sky and clouds). Perhaps there is a theme there that you can expand? A runway motif? Propellers? Stewardess's? Bags of Peanuts? (sorry, just brainstorming). But you really need to find and develop something new and exciting if you wanna run with the big dogs.
Again, please take this as constructive criticism as I do like your bike and wish you nothing but the best with it. Just trying to share a little of what I learned from years of showing cars and trucks.
Good luck to you
Yes most of my mods are simple order in the mail and install items. I was thinking along the lines of you and go with the blue sky thing, however it would be like last weeks show and maybe look like snow again(This is called my blue ice display in photo below). The class I show in in bike shows is called, "Stock Modified". I know that in Radical class or Old School Class or Stock Radical class (I think thats what its called), I would not have a chance. I need all the help I can get from here so keep it coming.
Some how I let myself get dragged into this drama.
Thank you shovelhead jack for your thoughts
Seems to me like you started the drama. You said you had a flamesuit in one of your other posts. Put it on. Because when you ask questions about how to display a basically stock bike as a show bike in a forum this big, you're gonna get some candid replies.

I am proud of you for riding your bike though, that is what they are for.
RockyRiver your bike looks great! Best of luck in the show. I haven't read through all the posts but you asked for opinions and of course I have one. I find the mirrors a bit distracting and think a larger carpet or no carpet would be best. Anyway enjoy the show!
Aight, let's look at a basic fact. Almost all of the bikes in the show are on the floor or barely elevated. What if you found a way to lift your bike a few feet off the floor? Bring that chrome up closer to eye level? put the back tire a foot off the ground and the front a few feet in the air? Diagonals imply action and create excitement.

I'm on this wagon.
Fester, I show in Stock Modified Class at shows, so yes it is basically stock. Except for a lot of chrome.
About 2 or 3 weeks ago I said in another post not this post, Blacked out bikes are Goth , meaning: dark, evil, or sinister. I also said its a cheap way of customizing your bike. (Maybe the words are a little different here). Take one of the above on my definitions. I guess I should of included some people think all blacked out bikes are cool also, that was an error on my behalf. To all blacked out bikes here I apologize from a post I made 2 or 3 weeks ago. Please accept it. But I do not apologize for taking up for myself in my thread I started about wanting help on my display. Thanks to all who helped me here.

Calling people's bikes cheap is always going to cause some upset feelings. My bike was cheap but only because I built it that way. I wanted a kick *** bike that didn't cost a lot. I have another bike (Twin Cam Softie) currently that I built on the cheap that was featured in Hot Bike magazine. The reason it was cheap was because I did everything myself. I modifed the right things to completely change the look of the bike with a minimum of purchased parts. Taking pride in how much money you have in a bike is foolish to me. It's what the final result is, not how much it costs. To me the less you spend getting a bike to a "custom" state is what makes it cool, not tossing a ton of money into an otherwise stock looking bike.
That's my $0.02. This wasn't about your bike, it was about you discrediting others. With that I wish you luck at the show. I can't offer any display advice but it's my opinion that the bike should be the main focus, not the display.

Well I'm not all that into show classes but if they have a stock bike class and thats what you are into, more power to you.
I dont really care what you think about black bikes because I dont have one. But for the record, they aint any cheaper to put together. In fact might be more because you have to by chrome parts first and black em. And the goth thing? Are you in high school or what?

Brings up a point about "show" bikes. I think if it doesn't qualify to be featured in a magazine, it probably isn't show material. One of the reasons I stopped goin to shows like Easyrider is because I see bikes all roped off that I pay to see, that I could see anyday at the dealership. WTF.

I like the general idea of what you are trying to achieve, I would suggest moving the mirrors closer together and using them to direct attention to specific detail on the underside of the bike or engine. No need to have one infront of the front wheel or something like that. but very nice work there
Don't listen to those who say their bike is for riding and nothing else. I've had people tell me that I should spend less time cleaning and more time riding. The posers are the ones who say that crap. Nothing bothers me more than those who say things like I don't clean my bike and my bike was made for riding and not cleaning and I don't want to spend all day cleaning chrome cause I like to ride and all that other BS that gets thrown out here. Guess what, here's a crazy idea... I can actually clean my bike (as a matter of fact, it usually remains spotless) and crazy as it sounds, I ride it as well!!! Amazing. I bet you could actually keep your bike spotless, show it in shows AND ride it too!!!
Well, you get my point. Your bike looks insane. Keep doing what you like! Nothing wrong with wanting to keep something you spent good, hard earned money on clean and looking new. Take pride in your ride and keep showing it! Then do something crazy and ride it!!! Good luck in the show and again, your bike looks absolutely awesome!

You're right.... I'm just a poser....... I don't work on my wife's bike, my bike, or anyone else's bikes just for the pure fun of it either! I'm a keyboard jockey! BTW: here's a pic I put up a fake background for....
That shadow is from 5 250W flood light inside the picture studio. LOL!
Rockyriver - good luck with the show. I'd get a larger piece of black carpet and wrinkle it up in a few places so it's not just perfectly smooth and symetrical. If you're going to have the chains up, there's no trip hazard worries. Check on some silver rope instead of chains and keep it low for the photographers. Turntables are nice, but makes for difficulty in viewing the small details you've spent time on for people to notice. Once you're to where you can spend some money on a display, set it up with powered rollers on the front and rear wheels to simulate running down the road. Slow tho, details......
