Default The Deluxe

When the wife and where riding in Florida this month we stopped at the HD dealer in Fort Meyers where I laid eyes upon a Softail Deluxe. I straddled the seat and to my amazement my 5'4" frame felt very comfortable on this bike. Not too wide not too tall the bars and foot boards where in the right place. I talked to a sales rep and asked how she rode and handled. She said very nice. Does anyone ride or have riden one of these bikes? I'd like your opinion if possible. The wife wants to ride so she will probably get the Sporty and I'll have to find me a New ride. Thanks.

I've never sat on one, but they did an article on the Deluxe in my new issue of American Iron. I like the way that it looks. I've got an idea for you. I have been told that a person can go to a HD shop and rent a Harley for awhile to see how it rides and handles. Have you thought of doing that yourself and experience the ride for yourself? Just an idea. The American Iron issue that I have is July's, but the article was excellent.

Hey Greywolf,
I live in Australia and have recently purchased a Deluxe. I am only 5'3" and find the Deluxe easy to manage. Handles surprisingly well and attracts a lot of attention. The only thing you might want to consider, should you purchase one, is a touring pillion seat if you anticipate riding 2-up regularly. The standard pillion seat really isn't up to sitting on for a long haul. Other than that, I couldn't be happier.
Ride safe,
Grub

Same basic bike as the Heritage or Fat Boy. They have a low center of gravity, handle well at parking lot speeds, and in my opinion, the best looking of the HD line at the present time.

Regards,

Bill

Hey Grub, I rented a Low Rider when I was in Florida cause I considered buying one, didn't like the way she handled that's what prompted me to sit on the Deluxe. So before I will purchase a new scoot I'll rent one again because riding one for a few days is the only way to see if the bikes for you. I'll never sell the Sporty, the wife will ride it and so will I. Can never have to many rides.

It fits my 5' 11" frame just fine, but it makes me slouch a bit. That's OK, though, cause I'm a slouch anyway...
