Time to keep it, ride it and enjoy it. Part of the reason Harley's have held their value so well in the past is little change from year to year. That and the availablility of custom stuff is a reason not to let it go.
I would say that it will be a couple of years for the resale value to come back up To many repos and last ditch efforts bikes out there.I bought an 08 Nightster for 6K with factory remaining warranty. I do think if and when the economy turns around . With the moco cutting back prduction I think we might see prices climb back up.But then there goes the good deal on the new bikes. Luckly I got deals on what I have and they are Paid for
Your NightTrain looks great, especially the black pipes. Certainly worth more than a 10K bike. Sorry it's such a buyers market right now.
8 months ago I bought my slightly used 08 Crossbones from a guy who paid 22k when new including extras and dealer fees/tax. He had no takers at 17k or 16k and he only had 650 miles total on the bike! He wanted to buy land, so he gave me his 'toy' for 15.5k. I figure I will still lose money if I ever sell it and I got a $6,000 break on my buy-in! I see Crossbones going for 13k and up right now.
One good thing for you is that you've got the wide rear tire on your bike so it is more desireable to many buyers than a pre-06 softail. There are some Dark Custom fans out there, be patient, you've got a great looking one, maybe the right buyer will find you.
Now is not the time to sell, way to many great deals out there. If you can wait then I would. The dealers here are still asking what they should go for but don't know if they are getting it, there are a lot of bikes sitting now just priced to high for the market. I wish I could afford another right now.
Ya its not a good market right now. Harley has lost money for the first time in about 14 years.I plan on just keeping mine for i have done a good bit to it so far. Now way i would get near what i have in it. So plan on keeping no matter. 105th FWSTC
Supply and Demand - Too much supply and very little demand. I dont think it will change for a while the market is flooded and I really dont Harley has very good marketing and they won't quite building them. Another problem is all the Harley knock offs and copies. A lot of people wont by the name but if I couldnt ride a Harley I just wouldnt ride a street bike.
