Now would be a good time to switch your tranny fluid to whatever you like. I used my handlebar swap as an excuse to change all the oil over Amsoil 20-50.
As far as the wiring goes, it would help if we knew what kind of bars you were putting on we might be able to throw out more specific advice. If they're apes, you will have to splice whether you want to or not. If you're bars don't require that much extra length, you might be able to get away without splicing. If you do have to splice, stagger your splices so you don't end up with a huge clump you're trying to fish through the bars, assuming you're running internal wiring.
the bars are streetslammers, but get this, i called my stealer this am to go get some fluid and gaskets for the pipes and tranny, and they told me they would drive an hour to my house, pick up the bike, finish the swap and bring the bike back for $200, first time i feel like im gettin a good deal at a dealership
Impressive. It sounds like they are hurting for business. I did some drag bars on my wife's sportster and it was not that difficult. I don't know if you have to extend your wires or anything, but when I did the sporty i didn't. I had a friend over to help and we were done in about 2 hours with turn signal relocation and all. Just take your time and ask questions if you have any. Drew
thanks drew, i would also like to get that roland sands breather from you guys tomorrow if that discount is still good,
I responded your PM. IF I have quoted someone a price and they are yet to order, the quote stands barring some great financial disaster like the entire world imploding like it did last year. Drew
First off you don't need new fluid or gaskets for the tranny the cover will not drain the oil from the tranny. Secondly you can reuse you're exhaust gaskets and trap door gasket. I don't think street slammers require longer cables. It is easiest to prop the tank up and remove the desutch conectors. Lastly I don't know about you but I get a great deal of satisfaction WORKING on my own bike and not someone else. THese are all simple mods I know you can do. And yes the beer helps. Good luck
