+2 sweeper bars, quick review.
I changed out the clutch cable to a plus 3", and the T/I cables +2. The T/I cables probably didn't need to be swapped out, and the new ones are actually a bit too long. But, while doing the job, having fresh cables made sense to me.
With the bars up as high as the inner faring will allow, my hands are still riding in quiet air, but maybe just a little bit more breeze over the knuckles and third/fourth finger areas. Still pretty comfortable there.
It was a lot of work, mainly in routing the cables and getting the clutch cover off without pulling the exhaust (it CAN be done!), but I'm glad I did it. That clutch cover can come off without draining the tranny or parking the bike on 2x6's. You'll dribble out a few tablespoonfulls of oil, but that's it. Just top it off or drain/fill and you're set. The inner snap ring on the clutch cable ramp is a b*tch to get off so have a sturdy snap ring plier set. My set of proto snap ring pliers just couldn't hack the job. After I got a beer into me, it finally succumbed. (Note to self: start cracking cold ones sooner in the project.)
Protect your tank during the teardown and install!
So, to summarize, the comfort factor is far superior vs. stock bars, at least for me. What really surprised me though is the improved FEEL of the steering. It is very much lighter and more nimble feeling now. Full lock, slow turns are a breeze. I'm no longer shoving the bars around, but almost finger-tipping them. The front wheel seems to fall over into the turn on its own more readily now.
Thanks to Berk, Dawg and many others for their great guidance on this project!
Did the 2x6 thing too. Guess I had the trans a little over filled. Got a little more than a spoon full!
Hope she (wife) likes them. She's on travel right now..
