Default Train highbar conversion - gas tank goof

Hey, guys... as a couple of you guys know, I've been salvating to start an ape conversion on my 09 train. I started it yesterday but only had a couple of hours to work on it. I removed the OEM drags, replaced the risers and bolted on the bars so I could measure for my cables. I woke up last night in a cold sweat realising that this is the first injected bike I've ever wrenched on. I have not doen any prep work to the tank, meaning the presurized line is still full of fuel. BOOO!

So, should I just yank the line and let it spray and deal with the clean up or do one of you guys have an idea to get the fuel outa the line without getting hosed by 1/4 cup of fuel?

Thanks in advance.

Here's some pics of the current progress.

You don't need to remove the tank bro. Just remove the front and rear bolts and set it back. There should be plently of room to get in there and change your cables and to access the wires.

You think there's enough play there? I'd read about other guys doing that, I'm just a little bit of a wussy. I'll probably give that a shot this afternoon. Thanks.

Just did this process myself. There is definitly no room to work on things without removing the tank. First, you cant slide the tank back without disconnecting the cross-over fuel line on the front of the tank, second, you still have to take off the high pressure line as well. Dont forget to unplug the fuel pump electrical conection on the left side. If the bike has been sitting for an hour or two, you can pop the line off no problem, there will be a little spillage, but nothing to worry about. The reason the tank has to come off in particular is for the throttle cables, they route them through a few things that would make it a real bitch otherwise. Try to siphon off as much fuel as you can, and prepare yourself ahead of time with something to clamp off the front cross-over line and plugging the nipple, this is the biggest source for gas spills.

Feel free to PM me if you need any more details.

Thanks, Carmell. I may take you up on that. You've already been a big help in my bar selection process.

I was able to pull my tank back with plenty of room. Try that first then remove the tank if you feel you need to. Good Luck!

Yeah, I just looked at it again. It looks like I will have to disconnect the quick connect but then there will be pleanty of room to slide it back. Thanks again for your input, guys.

If you pull the fuse for the fuel pump relay, and crank her over a couple times there will be no more pressure in the lines. Also if you do pull the tank, get a couple of hemostats and clamp off both sides of the fuel crossover and cut it.

Looks like I won't have to pull it. I just undid the quick connect and slid it back. I did have to disconnect the dash cluster connection (or whatever it's called). I think I have enough room to rout the throttle and idle cables. I won't be getting to that unil sometime next week, though because I've got to order them up.

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreiciate it.
